REAL LIFE - Where do the days go?

Flying past, thats where. So much for a blog post a day right? Been 6 days! Oh well, get that on the big jobs.

So this week Sage and I have just been hanging out eating iceream, playing games and a lot of shopping for stuff. Went and brought the sleepers to build the base of the worlds most over engineered chicken coop/run. Also managed to find all the parts for my old Swann Security system that runs over wireless.

Why you ask? Well this means 4 cameras in the coop and run, 24/7 monitoring and if I put the 2 point Thermometer in front of one I then also have temp gradiant monitoring. Nerd Meets Poultry = Win

Now to just work out where it is going to fit in the yard. Over all Dimensions are 2400x1900x890. Thats gives us about 4.75m² of floor space for our five feathered friends. Three Silkies, 2 Pekin Bantams so all small breed little critters, Add to that, coop part is raised so we arent losing any of that space and we also plan to add a 250mm high shelf that is 250mm wide running one of the 1900 sides and then L'ing around to run 1450mm along another side. This gives us another .775m² so combined gives us over 5.33m²

REAL LIFE - I Built a house today!

Well technically I built a henhouse, but hey it still took time and patience. I did have my amazing little offsider with me getting me screws and such. Tried to fix Deanne’s toilet in the ensuite but got the wrong part, so that’s a trip to Bunnings tomorrow. Oh well, get that on the big jobs, right?

So I want to expand this to be twice as wide, so I will grab some timber tomorrow as well. Babies won't need it for about four more weeks, but that time will fly by, so it's best to get it down now. Less Procrastination = win

What was it Matt Condie used to say, "Talking - Action = Shit" or something like that.

On other news, we went for a swim today at the Southwest Aquatic Place, always good on a hot day.

Ok well, not much more to write about today, so here is a picture of our tiny new additions to the family. Milky, Cinny, and Shadow, not sure what the hell they are doing, but they peeked at the skirting board for a good few minutes.

REAL LIFE -

Early start today, told Sage yesterday to come get me in the morning if she wanted to play with the chickens so that was a 6am start... Went to bed at 2am...

Had a fun day, went to target to buy bathers for the water park because when we left to just get out of the house the Water Park was not on the agenda.

So day went, chicks, minecraft, drive, target, wendys, water park, chicks, internet, blogging, bed.

Not a bad day really.

REAL LIFE - CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP!

So went on an adventure today! Sage, Deanne, and I all took Deanne's car and headed to Karridale to get Sage some Silkie Chicks. We have been promising her, well, I have been promising her chickens since mid 2025, and decided to pull the trigger on the idea while I am on holiday and able to assist in the starter care.

Here is a picture of the one we haven't named yet.

They are super cute, and we have set up a full little nursery for them with a heat plate and everything. Also brought a coup for them yesterday from Petbarn, which was $549 on the members' special, so it was a pretty good deal.

REEL LIFE - YAY FINALLY A REEL LIFE POST

As the title says, Reel Life post, Sage and I took some time today and headed off to Australind to catch some mullet with the cast net. Got a few tiny ones but the weird thing we got was the smallest Flounder I have ever seen. (See Video below)

We also went and dropped some money and brought a chicken Coup and a Chicken Nursery so we can get the chickens we have been talking about for 6 months! Going to be awesome, a couple of Pekin Bantams and a couple of Silkies. Should be a lot of fun, and Sage will be over the moon!

REAL LIFE - Thursday yup great title

Started work at 12.30 today so Sage and I got to hang out for the morning. Cooked up some chicken on a stick and some chips to go with them for dinner tonight as I will be at work till 8 and Deanne isn’t going to want to cook after a hard day at work herself.

We played a few rounds of Bloxd.io while eating a couple of sticks. Was yummy.

Dropped Sage at Nan's and went to work to find out we had very bad casuals emptying the draws in fishing. Nat found so much stuff that could go out so easy, little shits slacking off. That's going to come to an end, starting after the holiday,s I am going to start giving them a draw every shift that needs to be completed.

Day off tomorrow, so might have something to put under the REEL LIFE heading, which would be awesome. I figure I am going to buy some bait and sage and I can chill with line just sitting in the water until we get bites. I was thinking today that trying to get your kid really involved with fishing means Lures and soft plastics probably aren’t the best options. Too much "Doing" involved and as a father and a keen fisho I don't want to have to cast her line every 45 seconds. Long soak bait seems a much better option:

  1. Bait hook
  2. Cast out
  3. put rod in the holder
  4. sit, chat, enjoy child’s company.
  5. Bond, Bite, Win!!!

REAL LIFE - The Journey Begins.

 And so...

In December, the 14th 2025 to be precise, Natalie and I made a bet. That bet was simply, I need to be 88kg by the 14th of December 2026 or Natalie gets to cut my hair.

Now I am not opposed to cutting my hair after 35 years of it growing free, I know right, but now it’s a bet I sure as shit don’t want to, Its not about the hair, I just don’t like to lose!

And so, ChatGPT, MyFitnessPal and myself have had some long discussions and worked out a few things to help me win. Primarily stop eating like a 15 year old boy and start eating like a 49 year old man. Less Sugar, more Protein will lead to success.

I have some advantages in regard to the fact I work in an active job, I’m not stuck behind a desk, and I love meat, so protein boosting isn’t going to be a problem.

The disadvantages I have are I have a job that gives me constant access to Chocolate, soft drink, takeaways.

So, willpower is going to need to be activated in a big way! Not my strong suit but hey, motivation + willpower will get us there, right? Apparently, I am going to be eating a huge amount of chicken and eggs in the next 12 months, as well as a crazy amount of a vegie based sauce that I am going to tweak to work for a variety of dishes. i.e. Mexican, Italian, spicy etc just so I don’t go crazy!

Anyways that’s the plan for 2026.

REEL LIFE - Blustery Sunday

1.30pm Well, Sunday is here! Back to work tomorrow, so I had big plans to go fishing, but the wind is absolutely ass, blowing Westerly so completely onshore almost everywhere. Instead, I'm about to batch capture a heap of short videos, so we have some to post this week. Let's see how it goes...

Ok, so Success! Managed to get one Redfin from Capel, and at the same time captured what looks to be a long-form video. Well, the actual story is I filmed everything and got nothing much, Battery runs out, so I decide of lets go. Like all good fishos I throw that last cast of the day and BAM! fish on...

Always the way right.

See you all tomorrow!

REAL LIFE - Sleepy Saturday Food and Fun.

Was a pretty quiet day, went out to Bunbury Markets at the Queens Gardens. Was rubbish, so we headed down to the Back Beach Cafe. Was a bit slow because they were very busy, also fucking expensive! $92 for the three of us.

Deanne spotted a pod of dolphins out the window, which was pretty cool.

Super short, not related to the fishing post, but I promised myself I would write every day.

That said, I did work on the channel by spending an hour in Da Vinci just messing around, learning more stuff to make editted more pro. Going to change to everything filmed in 4K but changed into 3680x1920 in Post. This makes it a 2:1 Ratio instead of 19:9, so a slightly wider format. Primarily for watching on Mobiles but hey, it also gives a cool, slightly widescreen view on PC and TV.

REEL LIFE - Minecraft was Fun, Kid time was amazing

What a fun day was had today! Sage and I got to go fishing together. The wind was terrible, but she had a ball anyway. We tried lures for 20 minutes, but due to being unsuccessful, we got out the cast net and threw that around instead.

We got one little tiny bream which Sage threw to a resident Pelican. She was super stoked to feed one.

Played some of our Minecraft "To the End" game. Rebuilt the house. Sage loved this too. Always a fun day when its a Dad and Daughter day.

Channel related I did get a short made but going to keep it up my sleeve for tomorrow, we don't need to be dropping a short every day anyway.

Well, short post day.

So looks like our Dora Pekin Bantam that we renamed Doran because we thought it was a boy is likely to be a Dora again. Facebook peeps as w...
